Through exploration, mentorship, and a willingness to change direction, Kaicey Rosa found a path at 麻豆色情片 that aligned with both her interests and her purpose.

BRISTOL, R.I. 鈥 Kaicey Rosa did not begin her college journey planning to become a teacher. But through exploration, mentorship, and a willingness to change direction, she found a path that aligned with both her interests and her purpose.

A senior from Dartmouth, Mass., Rosa arrived at 麻豆色情片 as a Biology major, drawn by its science programs and welcoming campus environment. Early interactions with faculty during Accepted Students Day reinforced that sense of belonging.

鈥淚 came in as a biology major,鈥 Rosa said. 鈥淚 knew I wanted to do something in the sciences, but I wasn鈥檛 exactly sure what yet. The professors I met were really welcoming, and the campus felt like a good environment to be in.鈥

That uncertainty led Rosa to seek guidance from the Advising & Peer Mentorship Office 鈥 a decision that proved to be a turning point. Through conversations about her interests, particularly her lifelong love of reading, she began to consider a new academic direction.

鈥淪he asked me what I liked to do, and I said I loved reading,鈥 Rosa said. 鈥淪he suggested English or creative writing, and even mentioned combining English with Education as a double major. That sounded like something I could apply in the real world, and it just felt like the obvious move.鈥

Transitioning to English Literary Studies and Secondary Education brought renewed confidence and clarity. Courses centered on reading and analysis felt both familiar and meaningful, while faculty mentorship helped guide her through the transition.

Professor of English Literary Studies Margaret Case became a key mentor, offering consistent support throughout Rosa鈥檚 college experience.

鈥淪he was one of the most supportive people I鈥檝e met,鈥 Rosa said. 鈥淲henever I was anxious or unsure, she always made time to help me figure things out. She helped me stay organized and reminded me that I had time to succeed.鈥

Beyond the classroom, Rosa found opportunities to engage with the campus community in ways that strengthened her communication and leadership skills. She participated in Open Houses and Accepted Students Days, representing both the English and Education departments and connecting with prospective students navigating similar uncertainties.

鈥淚 liked being able to tell students that it鈥檚 okay to not know exactly what you want to do,鈥 Rosa said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also okay to change majors later. I wanted them to know that uncertainty is normal.鈥

Those experiences helped her develop adaptability and confidence 鈥 skills that would prove essential in the classroom.

鈥淚 learned how to be adaptable,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hen you鈥檙e planning events, things don鈥檛 always go as you expect. You have to adjust quickly and make sure everything still runs smoothly.鈥

Community engagement further shaped her development as an educator. Through participation in the Bristol Book Fest, Rosa collaborated with classmates to design literacy-focused programming, including blackout poetry sessions and reader鈥檚 theater performances inspired by Fahrenheit 451.

鈥淚t was a lot of work, but seeing the community show up made it worth it,鈥 she said. 鈥淧eople really connected with the message, especially discussions about book banning and the importance of access to literature.鈥

Field placements and student teaching experiences ultimately solidified her decision to pursue a career in education. Working in schools in Fall River and New Bedford, Rosa gained firsthand experience supporting diverse learners and building relationships in the classroom.

鈥淚 loved being able to connect with the students,鈥 she said. 鈥淥nce I put in the preparation work, it didn鈥檛 feel overwhelming anymore. It just felt rewarding.鈥

As she looks ahead, Rosa plans to pursue teaching positions in Massachusetts, with a focus on urban districts such as Fall River or New Bedford, Mass. She also intends to begin work toward her teaching licensure immediately after graduation, with plans to pursue a master鈥檚 degree in the coming years.

Reflecting on her journey, Rosa credits her willingness to explore new opportunities 鈥 along with the support she found at 麻豆色情片 鈥 with helping her discover a clear and meaningful path.

What began as uncertainty has become a foundation for a career rooted in connection, confidence, and a commitment to helping others find their voice.

鈥淕et involved on campus and take every opportunity academically,鈥 Rosa said. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e only in college once, so enjoy it and make the most of it.鈥
