Makerspace Team Intern
Job Description
The Makerspace Team Intern is a paid three-year FIT Internship that provides meaningful leadership experience through management, supporting users, and maintaining a welcoming space for all to use. Interns gain increasing responsibility each year - developing professional skills in managing a program, learning new technologies, team leadership, planning and evaluation. From mentoring peers and managing inventory to supporting student and faculty projects, this role is ideal for students looking to deepen their engagement with the field and prepare for a career in related aspects of the job.
Throughout the internship, students receive ongoing mentorship and feedback from the Library Makerspace and Digital Service Lab Manager to support their growth as creative professionals and student leaders. By the end of the program, interns will have developed a strong foundation in makerspace tools and equipment, leadership, operational skills, and community engagement.
Year 1
Responsibility/Function
The Makerspace is a collaborative space for member of the 麻豆色情片 community to make, create, play, and explore through a variety of tools, ttechnologies, and craft materials. Housed in the University Library and overseen by the Library Makerspace and Digital Service Lab Manager, the Makerspace is a student-run and managed area for people to use and/or learn the variety of materials for their own projects.
- Learn and become familiar with the different technologies, craft materials, and tolls in the Makerspace
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming workspace
- Help users get set up in their spaces, find the proper materials they need for projects, and general support as they work on their projects
- Ensures that each workspace is clean and clear of tools and materials, including assisting users in knowing where to return items and materials they've been using.
- Has regularly scheduled hours in which they work in concert with other students to "run" the Makerspace, including a "lead" experienced student and the Library Makerspace staff.
- Track activity and types of projects.
- Supports safe, respectful use of machines and equipment.
Year 2
Responsibility/Function
- Train and mentor first-year interns the different technologies, craft materials, and tools in the Makerspace, as well as procedures (as detailed in YEAR 1 responsibilities/functions)
- Take initiative in troubleshooting and maintaining tools, technology, and materials.
- Lead documentation efforts for key projects and collaborative initiative to highlight the types of work taking place in the space, as well as usage statistics.
Year 3
Responsibility/Function
- Serve as the lead mentor for incoming interns, providing training support and helping foster a strong culture (per all of the duties outlines in YEARS 1 and 2)
- Oversee all aspects of Makerspace student team, including scheduling, communications, and organizing lab resources.
- Under the Library Makerspace and Digital Services Lab Manager, delegate responsibilities to ensure an equitable and positive environment.
*Students are prohibited from driving during work-study employment with the limited exception of authorized work-study driver positions.
