About the Arts Management Minor

The Arts Management Minor is a multi-disciplinary minor designed for art majors or business students who are interested in a possible career in support of the arts.

Arts Management Curriculum Highlights

Students from the arts programs would be introduced to financial management of arts organizations, technology applications, business management, and marketing. Students with a business major will meet the arts focus through a core concentration in the arts (VARTS, MUSIC, DANCE, THEAT, CREATIVE WRITING or FILM STUDIES MINOR). All students have the opportunity to apply learning and practice through an internship or other project-based experience at an arts organization. The capstone course will engage all students with practitioners from performing and visual arts organizations and provide grounding in issues common to managing any arts institutions from smaller troupes or galleries to larger civic venues and museums.

Sculpture is process oriented and experimental, combining the development of intellectual and manual skills in a dynamic studio environment. Students pursue their individual artistic interests through work in traditional and new genre sculptural practices including site-specific installation and collaborative work. Students have access to a woodworking shop, ceramics studio, plaster & fabrication facilities, and digital technologies, to create art in conversation with our time.

The Minor in PDP allows for depth of study in a range of expressions from the figurative to the abstract. Students are encouraged to develop proficiencies in multiple media while exploring the ideas and issues they care most about in visual form. Many students use the PDP Minor to augment their studies in Architecture, Graphic Design, Marine Biology or other disciplines where visual communication is an essential skill.

Business knowledge and skills can enhance any professional career path, from communications to construction management and beyond. By minoring in Business, you’ll learn the basic principles of subjects such as accounting, economics, marketing, management and data analysis to prepare you to make sound strategic and fiscal decisions in a variety of workplaces.
